The Best Breakfast in Gainesville

There’s nothing like a flakey, buttery biscuit hot out of the oven. There’s something about the humble southern staple that just feels like home. So when I heard about the Maple Street Biscuit Company in Gainesville, I knew I had to check it out.

The Maple Street Biscuit Company is THE best breakfast/brunch spot I’ve ever been to in North Florida. It has taken everything that’s wonderful about southern food and made it modern and insanely decadent.

Known for it’s extravagant breakfast items and fresh-ground coffee, it definitely lived up to the hype.

The restaurant has very cool, modern diner vibes. With an open kitchen and huge wooden tables, it feels very casual in a warm, “sit down and stay a while” kind of way.

Taking a look at them menu while waiting in line to order was overwhelming in the best way. There were so many delicious options, from breakfast sandwiches served on top of their homemade biscuits to southern staples like fried green tomatoes and cheesy grits.

I opted for “The Sticky Maple,” a signature biscuit sandwich topped with fried chicken and pecan wood-smoked bacon, all topped with Bissell Family Farm real maple syrup (a family that has been making maple syrup for over 100 years).

It. Was. Perfect.

It was everything you wanted in a breakfast dish. It was savory with the perfectly-fried chicken breast (which was also huge), smoky from the thick, crispy bacon and sweet from the maple syrup. Plus the restaurant’s namesake, their signature biscuit, was so perfect I could’ve ordered 10 and eaten them by themselves.

My boyfriend ordered “The Five and Dime.” Now, this breakfast sandwich is not for the faint of heart. It’s a biscuit topped with friend chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese and a fried egg, all topped with a heaping scoop of sausage gravy. It’s about the size of a melon, overflowing with flavor and dripping with warm, melty cheese, runny egg yolk and gravy so good it would make Paula Dean happy.

He also ordered the Hashbrown Cake, hashbrown potatos stuffed with smoked gouda cheese and topped with chives. Needless to say he was full for the rest of the day, and my boyfriend is a pretty big guy so that’s saying something.

Everything about the Maple Street Biscuit Company is unique, right down to the ordering system. When we placed our order, instead of asking us our names or giving us a ticket number, they asked us what our favorite book was. When an order was ready, the woman behind the counter would yell out the book title given by the customer (my personal favorites were The Bible and Green Eggs and Ham).

With a great atmosphere and killer food, I’ll definitely be heading back for seconds!

The restaurant has one of these on every table, letting customers know why they should be happy to eat there. So cute!
